In 1961, Ernest “Ernie” Slack and Robert “Bob” Andrews started a journey that would still be going strong for over sixty years and into its third generation of family jewellers. Since the very beginning, Slack and Andrews manufacturing jewellers have been a mainstay of Manchester’s jewellery community and in that time has seen a huge transformation of the surrounding area.
Manchester’s Northern Quarter was a very different place in the 1960s compared with the Bohemian, cultural epicentre of the city that it is now.
As our surroundings have changed enormously in the last sixty years, so have we.
From our humble beginnings working out of a small workshop on Birchin Lane, to our new home, the fabulous, newly refurbished office and workshop on Dale Street, as a company we have always strived to keep up with the latest technological advancements that the industry has undergone. We work with the latest cutting-edge design technology, which allows us to produce entirely new pieces from scratch, meaning that we can create something that is crafted to the specific requirements of our customers’ vision.
One of our company’s core principles is the belief in the power and benefits of long-standing, mutually beneficial relationships. Whether that is between ourselves and our select few suppliers who we collaborate with in order to create your perfect piece of jewellery, or between ourselves and you, the customer.
Our relationship with our customers is something we pride ourselves on a great deal, with an open line of communication; from the very start of the design process, to the collection of the final product. We like to have open, two-way communication with the customer in order to work towards creating a bespoke piece of jewellery that best captures their initial vision of what they want.

As a mainstay of Manchester’s jewellery community for over sixty years we have established long-lasting connections with suppliers and manufacturers from all over the country and even beyond. We maintain that jewellery is a trade like no other, and because the finished product is something to be cherished and admired for many years to come, the very highest of standards must be kept in the production process.
A measure of the years of our contribution to the industry is shown by our membership to both the London Diamond Bourse, as well as the British Jewellery Association.
Between our staff, we have a combined total of two hundred and fifty years of experience of working within the jewellery industry, with two members of staff being a part of the initial staff from 1961. With all of this experience we aim to collaborate with you at every step of the way in order to ensure that the final, finished design perfectly captures what you had in mind at the start of the design process.
